Disparities in Hospitalization for Diabetes Among Persons With and Without Co-occurring Mental Disorders

Sullivan et. al sought to determine whether diabetic patients with mental illness were more likely to be hospitalized when presenting to the emergency department of a large southwestern hospital than diabetic patients without mental illness.  They found that diabetics with a co-morbidity of depression or anxiety were admitted at alarmingly lower rates than those without co-occurring mental disorders.
